RESOLVING POWER
Lenses shall be tested for resolving power in accordance with Section 5.1.4. All lines in both orientations of NBS Pattern 20 shall be clearly resolved. The NBS pattern is projected through the safety glass lens onto a surface 35 feet away. The image must not shift and must remain clear and focused.

LUMINOUS TRANSMISSION Section 5.1.2
A test that measures the fraction of light passing through a medium (polycarbonate lens).
Requirements:
Tinted Lens: Must have a minimum of 8% and a maximum of 85% VLT (Section 7.1.2 - Table 10).
Clear Lens: Must have a minimum of 85% VLT (Section 5.1.2).
Clear Lens: Must have a minimum of 85% VLT (Section 5.1.2).

ASTIGMATISM Section 5.1.4 - TABLE 1
This test looks for a condition of the lens in which there is a difference in refractive power due to curvature (flatspots).
What constitutes a failure?
Greater than or equal to .06 diopters difference.

PRISMATIC POWER Section 5.1.4 - TABLE 2
A test that measures the angular deviation of a ray of light after passing through a lens (measured in diopters).
What constitutes a failure?
Greater than or equal to .5 diopters deviation.

REFRACTIVE POWER Section 5.1.4 - FIGURE E5
A test that measures the ability of a lens to focus lightrays (measured in diopters).
What constitutes a failure?
Refraction of light +/- .06 diopters.
