There's plenty of snow in the Sierra, everyone knows that. So for now, opening dates are projected but could change due to a number of factors. As of today, April 27, this is the status.
Muir Trail Ranch - July 1st is the first day you can pick up your bucket
Vermillion Valley Resort (VVR) - June 1st is the first day you can pick up your box. June 9th anticipated opening day of resort. June 15th anticipated start of Ferry operation.
Red's Meadow - TBD. Usually mid-June, but could be later in June this year. Like many other roads into the Sierra, the road into Red's Meadow has been damaged. The most up-to-date information is available from the Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce, phone number: (760) 934-2712.
Tuolumne Meadows - TBD. In previous high snow years, Tioga Pass opened late-June/early-July. The campground isn't scheduled to open until August 1 so don't anticipate having any resupply options here or even decent exit options.
The takeaway here is....plan ahead! As I noted in the previous blog, Horseshoe Meadows Road (road to Lone Pine via Miles 744 & 750) isn't scheduled to open until mid-June. Onion Valley will be open so resupply through Independence (Mile 788) and VVR (if later than June 1) or take an alternate trail into Mammoth Lakes. More info on options into Mammoth coming soon!
