Kearsarge 10° – 850 Fill Power Goose Down Sleeping Quilt

Quilt freedom. Sleeping-bag security. Built for cold nights in the mountains.

The 2 Foot Adventures Kearsarge 10° was designed for backpackers who like the lightweight simplicity of a quilt but aren't willing to give up the warmth and security of an enclosed sleeping bag.

Instead of the completely open-back design found on many backpacking quilts, the Kearsarge 10° features a ¾-length zipper running from the upper body to approximately the knees, while the lower section remains permanently enclosed.

The result is a lightweight quilt/sleeping-bag hybrid with an enclosed footbox that helps keep cold air out and warmth around your feet throughout the night.

Filled with premium 850 fill power goose down, the Kearsarge is made for backpackers who expect their sleep system to perform when Sierra nights turn cold.

Why We Designed It This Way

Traditional quilts can save weight, but they aren't for everyone.

Move around during the night and an open quilt can lift away from your sleeping pad, allowing cold air to enter. And when temperatures drop, many backpackers simply prefer the secure feeling of having their legs and feet completely enclosed.

The Kearsarge gives you another option.

Zip it up when the temperature drops. Open it up when the night is warmer.

You get much of the freedom and versatility that makes backpacking quilts popular, while retaining an enclosed lower section for additional warmth and draft protection.

850 Fill Power Goose Down

The Kearsarge 10° uses 850 fill power goose down, providing excellent loft and warmth without the bulk and weight associated with lower-fill-power insulation.

High-loft down traps warm air around your body while remaining highly compressible when it is time to pack up and hit the trail.

That makes the Kearsarge particularly well suited for backpackers who need dependable cold-weather insulation without sacrificing valuable pack space.

A Footbox Made for Cold Feet

Anyone who sleeps cold knows where the problem often starts.

The feet.

Rather than using an open or drawstring-style footbox, the lower portion of the Kearsarge is permanently enclosed.

No opening underneath your feet.

No drawcord hole allowing cold air inside.

No trying to keep the bottom of the quilt wrapped around your sleeping pad during the night.

Just a warm, enclosed footbox designed to keep your feet inside the insulated portion of the sleep system.

¾-Length Zipper

The Kearsarge uses a ¾-length zipper from the upper body to approximately the knees.

On cold nights, zip it closed and use it much like a hoodless sleeping bag.

When temperatures are warmer, unzip the upper section and spread it out for additional ventilation and freedom of movement.

This design also eliminates the need for a full-length zipper running all the way through the footbox.

Conservatively Rated to 10°F

The Kearsarge is constructed to a 0°F insulation specification, but at 2 Foot Adventures we sell and represent it as a 10°F sleep system.

We intentionally give ourselves that additional temperature margin.

There are too many variables involved in how warm someone sleeps for us to tell a backpacker that a particular temperature will feel the same for everyone.

Your metabolism, clothing, sleeping pad, shelter, wind, humidity, elevation and how tired or well-fed you are can all affect how warm you feel during the night.

For that reason, we'd rather be conservative about the number printed on the bag.

Manufacturer construction specification: 0°F
2 Foot Adventures advertised rating: 10°F

The Kearsarge has not been independently ISO laboratory temperature tested, so we do not represent the 10°F figure as an ISO Comfort or Limit rating.

Designed for the Sierra

The Kearsarge name comes from one of the great gateways into California's High Sierra.

Anyone who has climbed toward Kearsarge Pass with a backpack knows how quickly a warm Sierra afternoon can become a very cold night once the sun disappears behind the granite.

That is the environment we had in mind when we built this sleep system.

It is equally at home on the Pacific Crest Trail, John Muir Trail, High Sierra Trail, weekend backpacking trips, shoulder-season adventures, and cold nights anywhere your trail takes you.

Perfect for PCT Hikers

The Sierra can produce freezing nighttime temperatures even when daytime conditions are warm.

For PCT hikers entering the High Sierra, the Kearsarge provides something many ultralight hikers appreciate: a lightweight down sleep system without requiring you to commit completely to an open quilt.

When the night is mild, unzip and ventilate.

When the temperature drops, zip yourself inside and keep your feet enclosed.

It is a simple design built around what matters most after a long day on trail:

getting warm, getting comfortable, and getting some sleep.

Important Temperature Note

A sleeping bag or quilt is only one part of a cold-weather sleeping system. Your sleeping pad provides insulation between you and the ground and can dramatically affect how warm you remain during the night.

For colder conditions, we strongly recommend pairing the Kearsarge 10° with an appropriately insulated sleeping pad and adequate nighttime clothing.

Individual temperature comfort varies considerably from person to person.
